
Ormond was the daughter of Josephine who was a lab technician and John Ormond (a stockbroker) from Epsom, Surrey. She is the second of five children to her parents. Her first appearances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. She then attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a single year of art school, she was transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She graduated in 1988. Ormond made her debut appearance on British television's 1989 serial Traffik. It was about illicit heroin trade between Far East as well as the streets of Europe. Ormond played the addict daughter of the main character, a Home Office minister in the UK government engaged in combating heroin imports. The role was praised right from the start.
